FADA Hosts Fire-Side Chat with West Bengal Transport Minister; State Commits to CMVR Enforcement and Action Against Illegal MBO Operations

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the apex body representing India's automobile retail industry, successfully concluded a high-impact Fire-Side Chat with the Hon'ble Transport Minister of West Bengal on August 05, 2026, at the Bengal State Room, ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata.

The event witnessed participation from over 150 automobile dealer principals from across West Bengal, members of the FADA Central Team and senior industry stakeholders. The interaction served as an important platform for constructive dialogue between the dealer fraternity and the state government, culminating in a shared commitment to strengthening industry-government cooperation and enabling a more transparent, efficient and growth-oriented automotive retail ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, the Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal acknowledged the significant contribution of the automobile dealer fraternity to the state's economy and employment generation. Reiterating the government's commitment to road safety, ease of vehicle registration and sustainable mobility, the Minister highlighted plans to modernise the transport ecosystem through greater adoption of digital platforms, online services and technology-led governance.

Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal said, "Our government's priority is to build a transparent, technology-driven and citizen-centric transport ecosystem. Through digitalisation, online service delivery and automation, we are working to eliminate inefficiencies and ensure greater accountability across the system. We are committed to the full enforcement of CMVR regulations and taking decisive action against illegal Multi-Brand Outlet (MBO) operations across West Bengal. Industry bodies such as FADA play a vital role in this journey, and we look forward to working closely with the dealer community to create a more efficient, accessible and future-ready transport environment for the people of West Bengal."

During the discussion, FADA raised key industry concerns, including the implementation of Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), the proliferation of illegal Multi-Brand Outlet (MBO) vehicle trade across the state, the introduction of pre-owned vehicle registration and the need for an entirely online five-year trade certificate framework.

Mr. Sai Giridhar, Vice President FADA said- We are thankful to Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal for his announcement on the full implementation of CMVR rules and the total abolishment of the illegal Multi-Brand Outlet (MBO) trade, which has been scattered across the state of West Bengal. We are also grateful that the Minister has acknowledged our concerns and assured immediate action on both fronts. In addition, we have requested the introduction of pre-owned vehicle registration in the state, along with an entirely online five-year trade certificate framework. These measures will go a long way in improving compliance, enhancing customer convenience and creating a fair and transparent business environment for authorised dealers."

FADA welcomed the Minister's assurances and expressed confidence that the proposed measures would promote fair business practices, improve regulatory compliance and enhance the ease of doing business for authorised automobile dealers across West Bengal.

The event concluded on a positive note, with both FADA and the Transport Department reaffirming their commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration towards advancing road safety, digital governance, regulatory compliance and sustainable growth of the automotive retail sector in the state.
